The Summer heat can be devastating to the health of your family pet if he should become severely dehydrated.

Dehydration is caused by not having enough water to replace the dog’s water lose that occurs through sweating, panting, urination and their skin. You can tell if your family pet is properly hydrated by pinching and pulling up their coat between your fingers. The hide should reflex (relax completely)  back into its normal position. If however, it stays somewhat raised the pet is under hydrated.

As Mike is installing his Pet Stop underground dog fences, he reminds his clients to keep these important items in place for their dogs: 1.) plenty of cool refreshing water, 2.) Shade from the sun, 3.) cover from the occasional rainstorm.

Secondly, Mike is sure to ask his clients to take their pooch’s collar off each night and then put it back on each morning. This allows the dog’s neck to get a rest from the collar; just like your heels do after buying a new pair of shoes. On all dogs, especially long hair dogs, leaving the invisible pet fence collar on all the time may cause a “hot spot” to appear on the dog’s neck. If the collar stays on for days on end, don’t be surprised if you end up having to make a trip to the Vet. If left unattended long enough the prongs may end up working their way into the skin of your dog resulting in great discomfort, expense, and a period of time when they will not be able to wear their collar
