Pet Stop Brand  and Pet Stop of North Georgia is not to be confused with these other invisible dog fencing companies.

Mike and Adam Sinteff are committed to each pet’s safety in the 5 following ways:

1.) Harmless correction
The correction our receiver sends to your dog is a mild static shock, nothing more. It has been thoroughly tested by engineers and veterinarians and likened to the shock received from touching a doorknob–not enough to harm, only to startle.

2.) Water resistant
“Pet Stop® receivers are resistant to moisture, so it’s okay to keep it on while bathing your dog, or if they get wet in other ways such as during a sudden rainfall or a swim in the pond. If your receiver should malfunction for any reason, it will be replaced at no cost for the part,” insures Adam Sinteff.

3.) Flash Alert®
Atlanta and North Georgia Customers don’t have to worry about their dog getting free of their boundary due to battery failure. Our low battery light feature lets customers know when the receiver battery needs replacing,” says Mike Sinteff.

4.) Comfort Contacts®
Most companies feature collars with steel pins or some other type of metal tips to conduct the electric correction pulse. Pet Stop’s receiver collars feature conductive rubber tips. No metal touches the pet’s neck. They’re more comfortable, and so are is the customer’s peace of mine. These tips are comfortable and work great on all short haired dogs.

5.) Safety shut-off
If the family dog somehow gets trapped in a correction zone, Pet Stop® products can recognize this and engage a safety stop that will shut off and stay off. Other products cycle on and off, but Pet Stop® receivers offer protection from continuous activation that other brands do not.

Mike and Adam Sinteff of Pet Stop North Georgia put their money where their promise is with a Warranty/Guarantee Program that protects the investment of North Georgia and Atlanta dog owners as well as providing peace of mind that dogs in Pet Stop® Brand dog fencing systems are being kept safely

Puppies, mouthing and Underground Hidden Dog Fencing

I use to be a mouthing puppy – not anymore!

Mike Sinteff is a Dog behaviorist living in the North Atlanta Metro Area who runs Whispering Oaks Kennels  a professional Training Boarding Center and Pet Stop of North Georgia, an invisible dog fencing company. Mike states, “Puppies usually mouth in the excitement of play or for attention as they do in the context of the litter. This mouthing is also part of how they establish relationships and sence the world around then. This is a time when they are very playful, which with puppies seems to be all the time. As a Certified AKC Training Mike Reminds us, “An Exercised dog is a Happy Dog, so it is good if you can get your dog out for three or four hours per day in his underground electric dog fence; he will be safe there“. Mike also reminds us to, “keep plenty of water available for dogs that are outside for play time in the Summer.”
Even though this mouth is natural for puppies, it is not acceptable behavior for a family dog so we must help the puppy see that this behavior must be changed. Training our puppy not to mouth, nip or bite does not mean you will change his happy personality.any The point is that he does not know that his friendly nip can hurt. The dog who nips is not pleasant to be around especially for children and older grandparents. Mike Sinteff specializes in working with young children and senior dog lovers through his two hour Train-the-Trainer session at the end of all board/training basic obedience programs. If you have children in the house, certainly you must train the puppy or dog not to nip even when the children provoke him and he nips in self-defense. The best time for this training is at about 12 weeks which is when this behavior begins to surface.

Remember mouthing, nipping and biting are normal actions for puppies who love to play; this is exactly what they do in the litter they just came from. Now that he has become part of a new litter. he needs to learn that licking is ok, but nor mouthing; this habit can be changed in one week or less with consistent, persistent corrections.  His mother and litter mates were his first teachers to tell him not to do this. Now that the puppy is living in your pack, you replace the interaction that the puppy would have had with the other puppies and dog. You must step in and continue with bite-inhibition training in a manner that is perceived as normal by your puppy.

Begin your training of your puppy by taking your index finger and thumb, clamping them around his nose, say, “no bit” in a loud authoritative voice and apply a little pressure until it is uncomfortable. Doing this each and every time your dog mouths you will, this will show him that this behavior will not be tolerated by you. Interact with your puppy normally, have fun, but be aware that your puppy needs a great deal of excercise, care and proper training.

Does Your Dog Take You for a Walk?

Will You Take Me for a Walk in the Park?

Most owners are actually walked by their own dogs. “When you see most people, the question is really, “who is walking whom?” points out Mike Sinteff with Pet Stop of North Georgia, North Georgia’s invisible dog fencing company and operator of Whispering Oaks Kennels in Cumming, GA.

Check us out at Kudzu.com

Mike continues, “They do not look like they are having fun at all while their dog drags them all over the place; the dog owner is seen being pulled up one side of the walkway and dog the other. I have actually seen lady’s pulled right off their feet and down to the ground by dogs that weigh half as much as they do.” Mike adds, “with a few changes most any dog can be walked by almost anyone – here are a few suggestions”:
1. Purchase a pronged collar and a good quality leather leash. Mike offers a matched set for $50 and can be contacted at www.fencemein.biz or www.teachmydog.net.
The Pronged Training Collar is a collar that the dog gives himself a correct with when he pulls against it as he walks ahead of his owner. These collars are very effective and can be adjusted to the size of any dog. If you should have questions about this call Mike Sinteff with Pet Stop at (404)536-6770. The collar does not bruise, cause sores, hair lose or any other negative side effects if used properly. The leather leash is very easy on the hands and only becomes more soft the more it is used. The leather leash outlasts most leashes, is very strong, and looks nice in leash walking.

2. Next get rid of the retractable leash, these walking leashes actually exacerbates the problem of the dog pulling ahead. The dog who is allowed to run ahead of its owner gets the idea that he is actually the leader of the pack and has the alpha place in the walk. The “attitude” of the dog often leads to issues of aggression and conflict during the walk with other dogs and even people as the two interact ten to twenty feet from the handler. The dog never looks back and just ignores the owner’s call to “stop” or “come”. Mike points out, “They just become a threatening repeating parent – the dog knows he does not have to listen”.

3. The Importance of the First 20 Feet – Hold your dog on your left side and hold him at your hip for the first 20 feet. Say to him, “Spot EASY” The easy command is used to let the dog know that he must walk without pulling. Be prepared to give strong corrections with the pronged collar if he pulls or lunges ahead. The proper use of the pronged collar is to reach forward with the leash in both hands, allowing slack in the leash, and then establish a good base stance with your legs, and then pull backward firmly. This action activates the collar’s prongs and brings about a pinching action much like the mother’s biting of the dog’s neck when he was a puppy. Dogs immediately know what this pinching action means. When they were puppies it met stop it or submit. This action actually speaks the langauge of the dog!

4. Take the Dog for Walks often - Be careful to start by walking in a place where there are few distractions. As the dog becomes more and more calm and controlled in the walk then you can return to walking areas where there are more people and people walking other dogs. In the beginning of your training, however, find a place with as few people and dogs as possible to begin your leash walking training.
       A. When you do finally go back to your old, favorite walking places always try to move your dog from one hip to the other as distractions come your way. For example if a man with a dog is approaching on your left side, step to the right and move your dog to your right hip. This giving of distance will help your dog with this distraction. Much else could be said, but I think you have the idea. If you need additional help please contact Mike Sinteff at www.fencemein.biz, www.teachmydog.net, gbff@bellsouth.net or call (404)536-6770 you will be glad you did.

Whispering Oaks Kennels: Back ground Electric Dog Fences and Electric Dog Collars

Whispering Oaks Kennels: Back ground Electric Dog Fences and Electric Dog Collars

Electric Dog Collars are safe if used Properly

Mike Sinteff with Pet Stop of North Georgia says, “Electronic canine training devices and electric dog fences have existed for over thirty years. The misconceptions and apprehension surrounding their use is rapidly dissipating through new, improved technological developments and better training. The Electronic training collar and invisible dog fencing are excellent tools to enhance the dog owner relationship in and around the home.” Mike Sinteff is available to do both “In-home” and Boarding Training in the following North Georgia Area: Cumming, Marietta, Atlanta, Kennesaw and Gainesville Georgia.

Electronic Training Devices (Check us out Kudzu.com)

Today’s advanced electronic training devices (e-collars) offer improved reliability, versatility and safety features that are state-of-the-art, and result in technology that is responsive to behavioral issues—a factor which can enhance the pet ownership experience, strengthening the bond between pets and their human companions. The average dog owner with basic knowledge of training techniques can effectively and humanely use electronic training devices for behavioral modification, dog obedience training and containment needs. (see steps pg. 4 – for dogs already trained)

Myths About Electronic Training Devices

In many cases, electronic training devices enable the owner to resolve even the most severe or challenging behavior problems, thus reducing the dog’s likelihood of relinquishment to a shelter, or abandonment. The following are all example of myths.

Dispelling myths about electronic training including assertions that:

• They make dogs aggressive Or, conversely:
• The devices work only on aggressive dogs
• They “shock” the dog
• Electronic collars can cause burns
• Dog owners must be expert trainers to use
the devices (Please give us a call about our “Train the Trainer” services)

Basic Workings of Electronic Training                                 and Underground dog fences

These devices draw their static stimulation from batteries in the collar; the energy level they produce is very limited, and comparable to the static stimulation received upon touching a metal object after walking across carpet. It is uncomfortable, surprising, and one quickly draws away; but it is not harmful and is more startling than painful.

Page 1

Advantages of Using Electronic Training Devices

The new generation of electronic training devices offers several benefits over other stand-alone behavior modification methods such as leash or clicker training.

• Speed / timing of stimulation
With a remote, trainers, owners can deliver the appropriate signal at the exact instant they want to obtain the dog’s attention. There is no time delay such as is associated with offering a treat, or taking up slack on a leash, or catching the dog if it is far away.

• Effective for any size combination of person and dog

Unlike leash training, which can require significant size and strength to perform safely and effectively, electronic training devices may even be used by persons with physical disabilities. In all human-dog training situations, regardless of size, the goal is to remind the dog that it is part of a team, not acting alone.

• Consistency—Can be used at all times in all appropriate situations

Many dogs are not motivated to work for anything but food, which can become problematic for dogs and for handlers. A dog may be a model student in obedience class, only to forget everything it has learned upon re-entry into the real world. Use of an e-collar ensures that the owner can consistently correct or reward the dog instantly, without a constant stream of treats, an extremely long leash, or physically pursuing the dog. www.PetStop.com offers e-collars that work with the Pet Stop Brand invisble electronic dog fencing.

• Control—Handler maintains gentle, effective control even at a distance

In certain situations, such as animal-assisted therapy or police dog work, it is of the utmost importance to everyone involved that a dog be under control at all times. Observations such as the following illustrate the value and flexibility of the electronic training option for almost any kind of situation when used properly:
“Our Canine Unit has been in existence for 15 years and has depended greatly on the use of remote training collars. The devices aid in teaching new exercises using low-level stimulation. They are also very useful in controlling the dog at a distance while allowing our officers to keep their hands free, a very important officer safety issue. Most important, it limits the department’s liability. We have yet to have an accidental bite of an innocent bystander…If we can prevent our dogs from placing themselves in dangerous situations by the use of low-level stimulation; it is our responsibility to do so.”

—Sgt. Rod Hampton Canine Unit Supervisor,
Round Rock (Texas) Police Department

Page 2

Potential Negative Effects Resulting from Incorrect Use
of Electronic Training Devices

In its publication addressing the effective, humane, professional standards for dog trainers, the Delta Society, an organization that promotes the human-animal bond, presented a detailed
evaluation of the risks associated with electronic and non-electronic training equipment. It noted that all training equipment and methods, including tools as seemingly benign as food and toys, could be harmful if used incorrectly. Examples cited include:

• Flat collars can put pressure on the airway and cause gagging when the leash is tightened
• Muzzles that prevent the dog from opening its mouth can quickly cause overheating due to the dog’s inability to pant
• Overuse of food rewards can cause an overweight condition

According to Dr. Dieter Klein,

“The electric properties and performances of the modern low-current remote stimulation devices (with current intensity of less than 100 mA) are comparable to the electric stimulation devices used in human medicine. Organic damage, as a direct impact of the applied current, can be excluded.”

Pet owners need to check for proper fit and irritation on a daily basis. Debris that comes between the dog’s neck and the devise may be an irritant as well and should be checked daily as well. Collars should not be left on a pet for more than 8 to 12 hours at a time.

Choosing the Appropriate Stimulation Level for Electronic Training Devices
“Starting at too high an intensity can cause an extremely fearful or aggressive response, but starting at too low an intensity can cause habituation.”
—Delta Society

Professional trainers should encourage dog owners to read all package instructions before using any electronic training device. In addition to providing product safety information, some manufacturers also provide suggested, step-by-step written or electronic details on how to properly combine voice commands with electronic stimuli to effectively achieve the desired result. In many cases these instructions are prepared by professional dog trainers on behalf of the manufacturer. Because advanced electronic training devices offer a range of stimulation settings, it is always advisable that dog owners find the lowest setting that is effective for their dog before beginning training.

Owners are advised to quickly determine what the “recognition” level is for their individual dog. “This is the level at which the dog can recognize that he is receiving some signal from the training device,” and therefore is “The correct level for training – that level at which we have the dog’s attention, whether we get it in the form of a treat, a click, a vibration or a low-level stimulation such as an e-collar.”

Page 3

Mike Sinteff gives the Basic Steps to e-collar Training – seek professional training for e-collar use first
 Two possibilities
A. dog is already trained and e-collar is used to reinforce training as in the case of 100% recall (e-collar is very versatile)
B. e-collar is being used in actually training the dog from the beginning
a. Please call and talk to us about the right approach for your particular dog. It is critical that the training meet the dog’s
particular needs. Mike Sinteff at Whispering Oaks Kennels www.teachmydog.net or www.fencemein.biz and finally at 404-536-6770

The following is for dogs which have previously been trained:
1. Watch DVD and read all owners/operators info provided by manufacture
2.  Use static stimulation (e-collar) on yourself starting at the lowest setting to experience the stimulation yourself. (dog’s coat & skin is thick)
3. Place e-collar on dog snuggly so that collar fits one finger firmly
a. Dog should be on leash or long line before placing on e-collar
4. After giving command and correction is needed, Start e-collar at lowest setting and press button to energize collar. Increase intensity only to the point you see the dog twitch. This twitching should be in the head area only. The whole dog should not jump because of the stimulus. too much stimulus- “disorients” or “shuts dog down”
5. With the dog on long line, give simple command like “Spot sit” if he does not sit use energized e-collar until he sits and then immediately stop energizing collar and give verbal praise and petting. Do the same with “sit stay”, “down”, “down stay”, “come“and so on.
a. The first couple of sessions should not be more than 10-15min. Keep it fun, happy, and short.
b. Do not increase intensity of e-collar for the first two to three sessions and then only by one level for the next several sessions
i. If needed, when the dog is not “coming” because it is chasing something or running out in the road, move the intensity up two levels – immediately call the dog’s name once and use the e-collar if he does not immediately respond/return to you.

6. Work on step five for about a week then take your dog to a fenced/contained area (like a football, baseball, soccer field) and work on the same commands completely off leash. The fenced area will contain your dog if he should bolt.
a. At this point, your dog should not bolt, but instead be 100% obedient to all commands, even “Spot come” no matter the level of distractions presently in the dog’s surroundings.

I cannot Get My Puppy House Broken!

Just Let me out in my Electric Dog Fence!

Help!!   I Cannot Get My Puppy House Trained!

Often the owner needs more training in house breaking concepts than the dog, “Housebreaking success is comprised of a number of factors: a) The dog understanding “outdoors is good, indoors is bad”; b) The dog developing a strong substrate reference for elimination; c) The dog understanding and awaiting a consistent schedule; d) The dog learning physical and psychological control of outer bladder sphincter and outer anal sphincter muscles; and e) the dog physically developing myelination of peripheral nerve cell affecting voluntary elimination activities” Says Mike Sinteff with Whispering Oaks Kennels in Cumming, Ga. Mike is also a dealer for Pet Stop Brand in the North Georgia area including Atlanta, Cumming, Kennesaw, Marietta and Gainesville, Georgia.

Check us out at Kudzu.com

Teaching YOUR PUPPY the concepts of “outdoors is good, indoors is bad” is your responsibility in your home.  Your dog needs to be set up for success while concurrently limiting opportunities for failure and he needs to be accompanied whenever he urinates/defecates, so that you may properly communicate praise or correction, depending on the appropriateness of his elimination. The preceding means he needs to be crated, tethered, or supervised during the majority of his waking hours and his unsupervised yard time needs to be limited in comparison to a dog where housebreaking is not a primary part of the lesson plan. This time frame may be two weeks to two month or more depending on the age of your puppy. Having an Electric, Underground, Dog Fence is a big plus in House Breaking

Put your puppy on a four foot leash and take him to one specific place to Urinate and another to Defecate (these can be a short distance apart). Both places should possess the same substrate material, preferably pine straw mulch.

STAY ON PUPPY’S Schedule: You need to consistently apply your schedule, so that YOUR PUPPY understands when he will be taken to eliminate. Wake up between 6-7am and take out to pee, feed and water for 15 min. and then place in crate for 20 min. next put dog on leash and take out at 8am. Puppy should urinate every 3 hours after that. Start this process over again at 5pm. If you cannot watch your dog Tether him.

 Importance of Age/Maturity Considerations:

Physical control of the outer sphincter muscles is a result of myelin development along the peripheral nervous system and acquisition of conscious coordination and constriction of the relevant muscles due to crating and tethering. Some dogs myelinate faster than others. In most dogs, complete myelination does not occur until the dog is 6 – 7 months of age. However, in some dogs the process occurs faster and in others the process is slower. Until substantial myelination occurs, the dog will have only limited conscious physical control of his outer sphincter muscles when there is pressure on the detrusor muscle along the bladder wall and involuntary relaxation of the inner bladder sphincter and a similar central nervous system reflex reaction due to pressure of feces along the descending colon wall and rectum.

In summary, success in YOUR PUPPY acquiring physical control of his outer sphincter muscles is partially age and developmentally related and beyond your control and partially related to coordination and strength achieved as a result of an appropriate training plan. Which includes, crating and tethering to strengthen these processes.

Alternatively, psychological control of outer sphincter muscles is a result of your/trainer’s training and the dog’s behavioral tendencies and proclivities. A dog compelled to keep his crate and den area within a mobile tethered perimeter clean, will learn psychological control and learn quickly to signal a need to eliminate. On the other hand, a dog who naturally has weak denning instincts or became accustomed to an unhygienic environment due to learned helplessness from a pet store setup or due to a lazy or inept breeder may not care as much about soiling the crate or surrounding area. Therefore, through no fault of your own, housebreaking progress will be retarded in comparison to a dog that possesses stronger denning instincts.

3.) Stay on the Training Plan:

If you properly considered all the preceding factors mentioned in Number 2, then you should/may not experience regression after board training once you return home with your puppy.

Properly follow-up on the board train plan:

Mike stresses, “Maximize the probability of success”, for the first two to six weeks the dog owner needs to tether or closely supervise their dog anytime he is outside of the crate, you need to maintain the schedule, you need to ensure that all accidents are caught IN THE ACT and properly disciplined with either a consequential fear-startle aversive or a grab of the scruff (not a shake) and a loud, deep guttural “No,” and you need to expand his unsupervised territory incrementally using baby gates. On the other hand, if you provide too much freedom to soon or too much responsibility too soon, his housebreaking behavior will likely regress.

 4) Some factors Trainer can’t control:

Factors beyond our/trainers control, such as the innate characteristics and idiosyncracies of the dog, the age of the dog, the rate of physical development of the dog, and the responsibility of the owners to properly perform maintenance and continued-stage training all affect the short-term outcomes.Contact Mike Sinteff Certified Trainer and Dog Behaviorist at www.fencemein.biz, www.teachmydog.net or (404)536-6770

Obedient Dogs are Exercised Dogs

Check us out at Kudzu.com

Many Dog Owners In the Metro Atlanta Area Wonder, “What Are the Basic Commands My Dog Should Obey?”

Before we begin give, remember, ”One Command, Enforce, then Praise”.  Work once or twice per day for 10-15 minutes, Keep it short, sweet, fun and simple and you and your family pet will be amazed how much fun you’ll have together.

Mike Sinteff, from Whispering Oaks Kennels says, “An Exercised dog is a Happy Dog.” Mike strongly suggest that dogs be given “outside time” at least 4 hours per day. This “Outside Time” can be accomplished through the use of an Underground electric dog fence from Pet Stop. “Once we get the physical exercise we can then move to the matter of Basic Obedience Training”, says Mike Sinteff. Mike Sinteff and his family live in the Cumming area of North Georgia and have been in the Pet Business since 2000 and love everything dogs, dog training and dog fences in the North Georgia Area!

Mike, from Whispering Oaks Kennels, is certified with AKC and CPT as a Certified Trainer and Dog Behaviorist and gives the following Basic Obedience Commands:

 1. SIT – Say name and then sit. “Spot, Sit!” If your dog does not obey, immediately pull straight up on the leash until it sits. Release the pressure and give lots of praise. A pronged or pinch collar works very well for most breeds.

 2. DOWN – Say name and then down. If your dog does not immediately obey, step on the leash, using it as a lever to place enough pressure to encourage the dog to down. When your dog downs, remove your foot quickly from off the leash so that the dog does not get corrected for being in the down position. “Praise Motivated Training” is saying the command in a high happy voice, in conjunction with treats, with a voice of affirmation, and physical petting. There are several other techniques for this command, if you need help please give Mike a call at (404) 536-6770.

 3. STAY – This can be done in a sit or a down position, but whatever position you leave the dog in, it must remain in that position until you have released it. To start, tell the dog to either sit or down. Then, If your dog is in a “sit-stay” and it moves, say no and pull straight up on the leash until it sits. If your dog is in a down-stay and it moves, say no and step on the leash until it returns to the down position. Video on this training can be seen at www.teachmydog.net

 4. EASY – The dog can do anything on its leash, except pull. If your dog pulls, while walking or standing, “pop back” on the leash and say “easy”. Depending on your dog, you will give either hard or soft corrections with the collar depending on the dog’s temperament.

 5. “Praise Motivated Training” – Be sure to make your sessions fun for your dog. (Praise, Praise, Praise) Remember that Unless you inspect your dog will not respect. You MUST be Consistent and Persistent. Do not spoil your pet.

 6. COME – This is done on the leash and the long line. Do use the command “come” unless you can enforce the command. We do not want the dog to know that this command cannot be enforced if the dog should choose to ignore you. The dog must remain on leash or long line until they are ready for Intermediate Training. When asking your dog “come” make yourself an enticing target so that the game becomes “Catch you if he can!” Running backwards, offering treats and lots of horse plan when the dog comes can all make you a more attractive target.

 7. OFF – This means to keep your feet off of me and off the furniture. Wave hands back and forth in front of you and say “off” in a strong authoritative voice. If the dog jumps up on you, use your knee to bump him in the chest if needed. Do not allow dogs to jump on you in the greeting, or get on beds and couches, this communicates that you and the dog have parity and the point is that you want to elevate yourself to an “Alpha Role” and relegate your dog to a “Beta Role”.

 8. WAIT – This is used when going through doors and coming out of crates, up and down stairs, sitting when getting food and water, Before opening the door in and out of the house, say “wait” and then expect the dog to pause his forward motion. The dog is on a loose leash when giving this command. This is a very important command to teach your dog.

 9. LEAVE IT – This means stop whatever you are doing right now. This is the only command to be given in a loud, gruff voice. If your dog tries to steal the object, pop him on the snout with two fingers and say NO!, or give a firm correction with the leash and say NO!

 10. NIGHT NIGHT – This is what you say when you want your dog to go into its kennel. Line the dog up with the kennel opening and say night-night. If your dog does not go in to his crate, help him with a firm tug to the collar or leash. Encourage and use treats as needed.

 11. GO LIE DOWN – Line the dog up to its bed, point your finger or snap while giving the command go lie down. If your dog doesn’t obey, take the leash or collar and lead it to its bed. When the dog is in its down position, place your hand in front if its face (like a stop sign) and tell it to stay. Tell your dog OK, FREE!!! when you are ready for it to get up.

 12. ALPHA BEHAVIOR – #1 When you feed your dog, pretend to eat out of its bowl first. #2 When you reunite with your dog, ignore it until it leaves you alone for 2-3 minutes. Do not talk to them or make eye contact. If they jump on you, just push them off, but in this case do not say off. #3 The first 20-30 feet of a walk, make your dog walk close to you and do the same for the last 20-30 feet of the walk. This is an area where additional, professional help may be needed again call Mike Sinteff at Whispering Oaks Kennels (404)-536-6770.

THE CRATE – Has your dog learned to be content in it’s “den” or crate? This is a safe place for your dog while you are out of the house, you have guests, or you have gone to bed. Dogs learn to love their “safe place”. You should also have set your dog up on a feeding schedule. Normally, they eat between 6-7 AM and again at 5 PM if it is a puppy. Adult dogs can be fed once per day. Dogs should only have food and water “down” for 15 minutes once or twice per day if they are inside dogs. If they are outside dogs, they should have water at all times. Pick water up one hour before coming inside from play. LET THEM OUT AGAIN IN ONE HOUR TO ELIMINATE.

YOUR PUPPY – A puppy that is crate trained is “worked from the crate”. This means that each time we cannot “watch him” we place him in the crate. As soon as you are able to watch him again, let him out of the crate to eliminate outside. Do not walk him, say the dog’s name and say “go hurry”. You become a post for your dog while he goes. Give him 2-3 minutes, if he does not go put him back in the crate for half an hour and try again. If he does go, praise him and bring him back in the house. “Tether him to you” – keep him in your sight. This will prevent your puppy from wandering off and eliminating in the house. As soon as you cannot watch him again place him back in his crate. Watch him for circling, prancing, sniffing the ground, or whining – these are all indications he may need to go out. Keep this up for 3-6 months until he proves to you he will not go in the house. Generally, little dogs/breeds are more difficult to “house-break”. Larger dogs are generally easier to “house break”. Keep it up and do not give up!! You can do it!!!

ELIMINATING SCHEDULE – Let your dog out about 6-7 AM to eliminate. NEXT – feed/water for 15 minutes than place in crate for 20-30 minutes. Let them out again to eliminate twice during the hour they ate, 7AM and again at 5PM. If they do not, place them in the crate until later. Remember that when you let them out of the crate ALWAYS let them eliminate. Your puppy will need to eliminate every 2-3 hours throughout the day. Go through the same process again at 5 PM. Remember, do not free feed/water! Finally, let them out to eliminate just before you go to bed and start all over again tomorrow. Remember that through-out the day they must be tethered to you. If you cannot watch them, put them in their crate. This practice will continue for the next three months or so.

Dogs Difficult to Fence – all invisible dog fencing brands

Professional CPT, AKC, Certified Dog Trainers

When considering “invisible dog fencing” of any brand, the special characteristics of your dog need to be taken into consideration if your dog is to be successfully contained.

 Check us out at Kudzu.com

What are these characteristic? What kind of dog is yours? These questions can be asked by dog owners in Atlanta, Marietta, Cumming, Alpharetta and are good questions before purchasing and underground dog fence.

1. High Ball Drive – Dogs characterized by a high ball drive are dogs that love to chase things that move. This could be as slow as people walking by alone or with their dogs or as fast as a child on a bike or skate board on the sidewalk out front of your property in your subdivision. These type dogs like to chase things even cars up and down your road. This type drive makes it a little more difficult to fence, but with good training Whispering Oaks Kennels and a Professional Installer any dog can be successfully contained in any underground dog fencing which is sometimes also called invisible fencing for dogs. If your dog exhibits this behavior and you have installation questions or already have a dog in a hidden dog fence who is getting out of his fence, feel free to give Mike Sinteff a call at (404)536-6770.

2. High Prey Drive – a high pray drive is even more difficult than a high ball drive, this dog desires to chase and catch or kill the cat, squirrel, chipmunk, bird or little dog. When the dog is in what is called “the red zone” their hearing is off, their eyes are peeled and their adrenaline is flowing. It takes quite a bit of pulse to turn a dog in this state. The dog must believe that it cannot get at the prey; he must be convinced in his mind that he is fenced. The installer is not always able to rely only on his collar strength or width of his fence especially in the case of a subdivision lot that is 1/3 to 1/2 acre. There must be the combination of good training, good installation and a strong collar for difficult stubborn dogs. Mike and Adam Sinteff have just the underground fence and training ability to handle any dog, in any yard, and with any temperament.

3. High aggression Issues – Dogs that are highly aggressive can be contained, but this system must be a state of the art containment system and the dog in question must be evaluated by a professional trainer who knows dogs and invisible dog fencing. There are dogs that should not be contained in an underground pet fence only, these dogs are too much of a liability for the owner. These dogs are actually dangerous and should be fenced into a traditional fence with a Pet Stop® of North Georgia Fence installed on top of the fence or in the ground beside the traditional fence. The traditional fence will slow the dog down and the Pet Stop® fence will keep the dog from digging under, jumping over or climbing over. Pet Stop of North Georgia collars can be programmed to go off for a full six seconds after the dog comes in contact with the pet fence. This kind of advanced technology is much needed in order to contain aggressive dogs. Mike Sinteff warns, “If the dog is a threat to get out of the fence the owner must not rely on the hidden dog fence only for containment the risk is too high”.

4. Climbers, diggers, & jumpers – Finally, comes the subject of dogs that climb, dig or jump over their traditional above ground dog fence. The Pet Sto® Brand Pet Containment system is ideal for keeping any dog fenced if he is in a traditional fence and digs under, climbs or jumps over. Pet Stop® is ideal for any yard that does not yet have a traditional fence. Pet Stop® dog fencing is about 1/10th the cost of traditional above ground fencing. With Pet Stop’s advanced fencing system, the fence width can be programmed from one foot wide to as much as sixty feet wide. No dog can dig deep enough, climb fast enough, or jump high enough to traverse a fence that is sixty feet wide let alone one that is even ten feet. Mike Sineff with Pet Stop of North Georgia is an expert in the area of difficult installations and difficult dogs; Mike guarantees his work, his fence, and your dog’s containment or he will refund 100% of your investment no questions asked and he will not ask you to give him a year to figure it all out. Give Mike and Adam a call today, you’ll be happy you did.
